As befits a famous University town, Cambridge has some unique and historic pubs together with popular student bars and standard chain pubs.

As would be expected, many of the liveliest pubs are popular student haunts, and these are generally to be found around the colleges and student areas of the city. There are however a host of pubs well set up to cater for the large tourist trade, and food as well as childrens areas are plentiful and of good quality.

If you are going to the Theatre, the Red Cow Pub serves food all day, and is next door to the Corn exchange, opposite the Arts Theatre. also The Eagle is just round the corner near Kings College and serves a good selection of food all day. The Mitre tavern does good fish and chips and the Baron of Beef has a good menu, both are on Bridge Street opposite St Johns College.

If you are after music, Rattle and Hum at the Cambridge on King Street has music every night plus televised sport and food. For a quieter place The Fort St George in England on Midsummer Common is a famous pub next to the river and along from all the University Boat Houses, popular with the rowing fraternity.

The Rat and Parrot on Downing street, next to Downing college is a large bar and restaurant spread over three floors, and just opposite it is Quinns Irish Pub, in the bottom of the Crown Plaza Hotel, seving food from 12 - 8
